We are currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to act as Volunteer Community Credit Union Champions to help us to introduce Derbyshire Community Bank (DCB) (trading name for Erewash Credit Union) in Derby City.
Community Credit Union Champions
DCB has been running for about 12 years providing valuable support to its members, but far too often we come across people who have not heard about what we do. DCB does not just operate in Erewash. It now helps people in Amber Valley, Derbyshire Dales, High Peak and Derby City.
The need for credit unions has never been greater and we need enthusiastic volunteers who are interested in raising awareness of the bank.
Why become a Community Credit Union?
This is a volunteer opportunity suitable for anyone who supports and wishes to help the credit union movement. You may be interested in developing new skills, or wish simply to support your community; however you must be a ‘people person’ who likes talking to and helping members of the public. The work is varied – you will be giving out information, promoting DCB membership, helping people to access DCB online services and signposting to other agencies such as Citizens’ Advice Bureau for specialist support.
Working usually for a few hours at a time at convenient locations such as public libraries or workplaces and as frequently as you wish you could be working with small groups of other volunteers or, if you’re comfortable on your own. All volunteers will be supported throughout their participation in the programme by the banks staff.
You will have the opportunity to develop your skills by gaining experience of working inside one of the Credit Union branches as well as experience helping with events in their community. No previous knowledge or experience is required.
We hope the experience of working as an advocate for, and engaging with, the admirable work of DCB will be a rewarding experience for Champions, as well as an opportunity to develop new skills.
