Supporting Derby’s Carers: Local Events & Wellbeing Activities This May

At Derbyshire Community Bank, we’re always keen to share opportunities that support the wellbeing of our members and the wider community. This May, Derby City Carers are hosting a fantastic range of local activities, support groups, wellbeing sessions, and community events for unpaid carers across Derby City.

Whether you’re looking to connect with others, enjoy some time outdoors, try a new activity, or access support and advice, there’s something for everyone.

Mental Health Awareness Week – Wellbeing Walk

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2026, Derby City Carers are collaborating with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust to host a guided wellbeing walk at Allestree Park on Wednesday 13th May from 10am–11:30am.

This relaxed outdoor session is open to carers and those they care for, offering a chance to enjoy nature, meet others, and focus on wellbeing.

Events Taking Place Throughout May

  • Monday 11th May – Eastern European Carers Peer Support Group – 11am meet in Café at National Trust Kedleston Hall. Carers & Cared For Welcome.
  • Tuesday 12th May – Indoor Virtual Spin Class for Carers & 1 Guest – 7pm-8pm at Springwood Leisure Centre.
  • Wednesday 13th May – Wellbeing Walk with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust – 10am-11.30am at Allestree Park. Open to Carers (& Cared For).
  • Thursday 14th May – Carers Craft Cafe – Peer Led & Carers Only – 10.30am-12.30pm at Dubrek Studios.
  • Tuesday 19th May – Shared Reads with Derby Book Festival – 3pm-4pm at Mackworth Library. Carers (& Cared For welcome).
  • Friday 22nd May – Wild Minds Indoor Crafts – 10.30am-12.20pm at YMCA The Campus.
  • Friday 29th May – 2-4pm – Dementia Carers Cafe at Derby Theatre. Carer with Cared For. If you haven’t been before, please contact s.allen@derby.ac.uk to book your place.

  • Saturday 9th May – Polish Heritage Day, Derby Market Hall – Midday-2pm.
  • Tuesday 12th May – Park Medical Carers Group – St Hughes Church Hall, Borrowash – 10:30-12:30pm.
  • Monday 18th May – Royal Derby Hospital (Court Yard Entrance) – 10am-1pm.
  • Tuesday 19th May – Carer’s Hub – Mackworth Library – 10.30am-2.30pm.
  • Wednesday 20th May – Florence Nightingale Unit (Main Corridor) – 2pm-4pm.
  • Thursday 21st May – Our Abbey Community Networking Day – Bramblebrook Community Centre, Stockbrook Street, DE22 3WH – 11:30am – 1.30pm.
  • Friday 22nd May – Florence Nightingale Unit (Main Corridor) – 10am-1pm.
  • Monday 27th May – The Hardy Group – St Nicholas Church, Allestree – 1pm-3.30pm.

Meet the Derby City Carers Team

The Derby City Carers team will also be attending a variety of local community events throughout the month, including sessions at:

  • Mackworth Library
  • Derby Market Hall
  • Royal Derby Hospital
  • Florence Nightingale Community Hospital
  • Bramblebrook Community Centre
  • St Nicholas Church

These drop-in sessions are a great opportunity to find out more about local support available to carers.
