Investing in the next generation of community banking.
There was a real buzz around Derbyshire Community Bank this week as we welcomed students from the University of Derby to our Volunteer Open Day at our Cubo office in Derby city centre.
The day was designed to introduce students to who we are, why community banking matters and how they can play a meaningful role in helping us continue to grow and evolve.
From the very beginning, the energy in the room was fantastic.
The students were engaged throughout the session, asking thoughtful questions, sharing their own ideas and showing genuine curiosity about the role credit unions play within local communities. It made for some brilliant discussions and exactly the kind of conversations we hoped to have.
At Derbyshire Community Bank, we don’t expect volunteers to simply observe.
We want them to think differently.
We want them to ask questions.
And most importantly, we want them to challenge us.
Community banking is constantly evolving, and organisations only continue to improve by welcoming new perspectives. The students brought fresh ideas and asked questions that encouraged us to look at our work through a different lens.
That is incredibly valuable.
Throughout the session we shared our purpose of improving financial wellbeing, explained why we exist as a member-owned credit union and introduced our long-term strategy for growth, innovation and community impact.
The students also had the opportunity to learn how each department contributes to one shared mission, from Lending and Finance to Marketing, Operations, Member Services and Credit Control.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who attended.
The enthusiasm, engagement and willingness to contribute made the day a real success, and we’re excited to see what the coming weeks bring.
