What is a Credit Union common bond?

One of the requirements of a credit unions is that members have something in common with one another, this is known as a ‘common bond’.

About Our Common Bond

Unlike banks which are open to anyone, membership of credit unions in the UK is exclusively for those who have something in common, or a ‘common bond’. This is defined in the credit union rules.

The common bond for Derbyshire Community Bank is defined as:

  • individuals who live or work in the county of Derbyshire or the city of Derby
  • a corporate body that has a place of business in the county of Derbyshire or the city of Derby
