We’re proud of the individuals and organisations who deposit £1,000 or more to strengthen our community. These savings allow us to lend to local people who may otherwise be financially excluded. We call these Members our Angel Savers because they choose to support people over profit. Thank you to every Angel helping Derbyshire thrive!
Every pound you save helps someone avoid high-cost lenders, manage unexpected expenses, and access fair, affordable credit. It’s not a donation — it’s purposeful saving that creates real local impact.
Access to affordable credit can be difficult if you have little credit history, have moved frequently, are new to the UK, have missed payments, or are on a lower income. We lend responsibly, ensuring repayments are affordable and beneficial.
Alongside their loan repayments, every borrower saves £12 per month, building resilience and stronger money habits. With Angel Savers behind us, we’re not just lending — we’re building a more supportive, financially secure Derbyshire community.
Plus, you can be part of a national strategy to increase access to affordable loans. Fair4All Finance research finds there to be a £2billion gap; there just isn’t enough money available to lend to everyone who would benefit. Here in Derbyshire, your savings enable us to reduce the gap. Holly Piper, Director of Funding at Fair4All explains more here.
We pay an annual dividend on savings with DCBank, this is approved at our March AGM. Some of our Angel Savers choose not to take their dividend to help us reduce costs and support more people in community. Here are your options:
Derbyshire Community Bank is a member-owned financial cooperative. We are self-sustaining; not dependent upon grants or funding. Our operating expenses are funded by our lending interest.
We are able to accept donations to our general reserves or specifically to support very excluded individuals. These may be individuals in vulnerable circumstances; recently left prison, no fixed abode, domestic violence survivors.
Donations & SupportWe are very clear that a loan is not always the best choice; we work with, and signpost to local support organisations for the best solution. However a small low-cost loan can enable people to get back on their feet with dignity and build a credit history that will be invaluable when they need to rent a property, open a bank account, mobile phone contract or any other service that requires a credit check.
